Close by, just down the hill

A life lived mostly outdoors, honored close to home

In La Cañada Flintridge, so much of a pet's life happens outdoors — early walks in Cherry Canyon before the day warms up, a dog trotting ahead on a fire road off Angeles Crest Highway, a cat keeping watch over a backyard shaded by old oaks. When that life comes to its close, Passing Paws is close by too. We are a pet cremation and aftercare company based just down the hill in Glendale, and we serve every street in La Cañada Flintridge.

Pet cremation in La Cañada Flintridge should never require a grieving family to sort out logistics. Our staff come to you — up the long driveways off Foothill Boulevard, into the hillside streets of Alta Canyada and Flintridge — and carry your pet gently into our care. You never need to drive anywhere: we handle pickup, and your pet's ashes are returned to your door. We answer the phone from 8am to 8pm, every day of the week, at (626) 340-0000.

Households here tend to hold more than one animal's story. The dog who grew up alongside the kids, the cat who arrived years later and claimed the sunniest windowsill, a parakeet or a hamster somewhere along the way.

We care for all of them — the parakeet and the Great Dane alike — and we treat each one as somebody's family, because they are.

Water or flame

Water or flame: two unhurried choices

Many of the families we meet in La Cañada are gardeners and hikers — people who think about the land and what they leave on it. For them, pet aquamation often feels right: a farewell carried out gently in water rather than by flame, quiet and unhurried. We offer it alongside traditional cremation, and we will walk you through both without steering you. There is no wrong answer here, only the one that sits well with your family.

If you choose private (individual) cremation, your pet carries their own Cremation Identification Tag from our first moment of care to the last, and the ashes returned to you are solely your pet's — typically within 2 to 3 weeks of pickup. Communal cremation is also available for families who do not wish to have ashes returned. Pricing is flat and spoken plainly before you decide anything: communal cremation is $249, private cremation is $399, and aquamation is $449 — no weight tiers, no hidden fees. You can read our full flat-rate pricing any time.

Communal
$249

Private

Aquamation

A gentle, water-based alternative to flame

A goodbye at home

A goodbye under your own oaks

On La Cañada Flintridge's larger properties, a pet's whole world is often the property itself — the back lawn, the pool deck, the shade line where they napped every afternoon for years. For families who want that world to be the last thing their pet knows, in-home pet euthanasia in La Cañada Flintridge is available through Saving Grace Veterinary Services, a separate licensed veterinary practice, so your pet never has to leave home. Afterward, Passing Paws takes it from there: one phone call, and we handle everything that comes next, gently and without hurry.

Every size, the same care

One steady number across many years of animals

Families here often measure their eras in animals — the shepherd of the early years, the rescue who came after, the cat who outlived them both. Whether you are arranging dog cremation in La Cañada Flintridge for a 110-pound companion or a quiet farewell for the family cat, the care is the same: our staff handle all lifting and transport, steep driveways and hillside lots included, and cat cremation receives the same individual attention as any other. No pet is too small for us, and none is too large. And because we hope to be the number your family keeps for many years, no one here will ever rush you or press you toward anything.

Keepsakes

Places to keep them close

Descanso Gardens has taught this town something about memory — that returning to the same camellia walk year after year is its own way of remembering. Much of that remembering is already provided for: every private cremation and aquamation includes a clay paw print on a gold display stand and an aromatic cedar urn for the mantel facing the yard their dog patrolled, and private cremation adds a soft fur clipping as well. Some families choose a little more — an additional clay print for a second household ($50), an ink print ($35), memorial jewelry for the days you want to carry them with you, or a biodegradable urn planted beneath a new rose in the garden. Nothing beyond what is included is ever expected. All of it is there if it helps.

A few honest answers

Questions from La Cañada Flintridge Families

Can we bury our pet's ashes in our own garden?
Many La Cañada families do exactly that. Once your pet's ashes come home to you — typically 2 to 3 weeks after pickup — they are yours to keep or to place wherever feels right. For garden burials we offer biodegradable urns designed to return gently to the soil; some families plant a rose or a young tree above them, a small echo of the camellia walks at Descanso. If you would like help thinking it through, just ask when we talk.
Our dog passed on a trail off Angeles Crest — do we have to be home for pickup?
No. Call us at (626) 340-0000 — we answer from 8am to 8pm, every day — and tell us where you are and what happened. We will arrange a time and place for pickup that works for your family, and our staff will handle all of the lifting and transport from there. There is no wrong way to reach us in a moment like that.
We're mid-remodel and staying at a second address — can pickup and the return of ashes happen at different places?
Yes. Tell us where your pet is now and where you expect to be in a few weeks, and we will come to the first and return the ashes to the second. A renovation, a stay with family, a move in progress — none of it complicates anything on our end. The ashes typically come back to you 2 to 3 weeks after pickup, wherever you are by then.
We have a very large dog on a hillside lot — is pickup still possible?
Absolutely. Steep driveways and hillside lots are part of daily life in La Cañada, and our staff manage every bit of the lifting and carrying — for pets of any size, from the smallest to well past 100 pounds. You will not need to move your pet at all.
