Down Colorado Boulevard

In Eagle Rock, pets are woven into the daily rhythm of the neighborhood — dozing on the porches of Craftsman bungalows along Hill Drive, walking Colorado Boulevard past the coffee shops and old storefronts, chasing tennis balls at the Eagle Rock Recreation Center in the shadow of the Rock itself. When one of those companions passes, many households here are facing pet loss for the very first time — and almost no one tells you, ahead of time, what happens next.

Passing Paws is a pet cremation and aftercare company serving Eagle Rock and every neighborhood around it. Our staff come to your home anywhere in Eagle Rock, from the flats around Eagle Rock Plaza to the streets above Hill Drive and the blocks around Occidental College, and carry your pet into our care. You never need to drive anywhere.

If you have never arranged aftercare before, this page walks through it plainly — what your choices are, what each one means, and what happens at every step — because decisions come easier when nothing is left vague.

If this is your first time

How aftercare works

It starts with a phone call — (626) 340-0000, answered 8am to 8pm, every day of the week. We listen first. When you’re ready, our staff come to your home, whether that’s a bungalow off Yosemite Drive or an apartment near Eagle Rock Plaza, and carry your pet into our care as gently as you would yourself.

From there, the process is unhurried and transparent. You choose the form of aftercare that feels right, and the numbers are simple flat rates — $249 for communal cremation, $399 for private cremation, $449 for aquamation, never a weight tier or a hidden fee. Every figure is published in our full flat-rate pricing, and ashes are typically hand-delivered back to you two to three weeks after pickup. At every step, you’ll know where things stand.

Passing Paws CREMATION  ID

Most families find the decision comes down to one quiet question: do you want your pet’s ashes home with you? If the answer is yes, private cremation is that path — your pet is cremated individually, a Cremation Identification Tag travels with them from pickup all the way to the return of their ashes, and the ashes you receive are solely your pet’s, with no mingling and no uncertainty. If keeping ashes isn’t part of how your family grieves, communal cremation is a shared, simpler option in which ashes are not returned; for some households that is the right and honest choice, and we will never steer you away from it.

Pet aquamation is the third path: it uses warm water and gentle alkalinity instead of flame, and more and more Eagle Rock households ask about it, often for environmental reasons. All three options are available whether you’re arranging dog cremation in Eagle Rock for a shepherd over a hundred pounds or cat cremation for the smallest of companions — we care for pets of every size, hamsters and parakeets included.

When the kindest goodbye is at home

A last afternoon on a Hill Drive porch

Some families find us before the loss, when a veterinarian has said the kindest thing left to give is a peaceful ending. In-home pet euthanasia for Eagle Rock families is provided through Saving Grace Veterinary Services, a separate licensed veterinary practice, so the goodbye can happen where your pet is most themselves — on the porch, in the backyard, on the sun-warmed spot by the front window.

Afterward, if you wish, Passing Paws takes over the aftercare directly from your home, so your pet stays in gentle hands from that moment until their ashes come back to you.

Something to hold onto

Keepsakes made to be held

This is a neighborhood of makers — ceramicists, illustrators, people who spend weekends restoring hundred-year-old houses — and many Eagle Rock families want something physical to hold onto.

Already comes home with you
  • Clay paw print on a gold display stand — with every private cremation and aquamation
  • Aromatic cedar urn — included with private cremation
  • A soft fur clipping — included with private cremation, at no extra cost
  • Cremation Identification Tag that stays with your pet every step

Much of it already comes home with you: every private cremation and aquamation includes a clay paw print on a gold display stand, and private cremation also includes an aromatic cedar urn and a fur clipping at no extra cost. Beyond what’s included, we offer additional prints ($50 clay, $35 ink), memorial jewelry, and biodegradable urns for families who plan to return ashes to a garden. Nothing extra is ever expected. Some families want a full shelf of remembrance; others want the included print and nothing else. Both are exactly right.

A few honest answers

Questions from Eagle Rock Families

Do you offer home pickup throughout Eagle Rock, including the hillside streets?
Yes. Our staff come to homes anywhere in Eagle Rock — the flats along Eagle Rock Boulevard, the blocks around Occidental College, and the hill streets north of Hill Drive — as well as everywhere else in Los Angeles County. You never need to transport your pet yourself.
We’re near Occidental College — if our pet passes in the evening, how quickly can you come?
We answer the phone from 8am to 8pm every day, and Eagle Rock sits close to the center of our service area, so we’re never coming from far away — our team can typically be at your door within two hours of your call, and we’ll give you an honest, specific arrival time rather than a vague window. If your pet passes after 8pm, call us first thing at 8am — and in the meantime, we can talk you through how to gently care for them at home overnight.
My dog weighed over 100 pounds. Can you still pick him up from our house?
Yes. Size is never an issue — a shepherd who filled the whole back porch is as welcome in our care as a parakeet, and our staff do all of the lifting and carrying themselves, including up the steps of Eagle Rock’s steeper hillside streets.
Can we arrange in-home euthanasia and cremation together?
In-home euthanasia is provided through Saving Grace Veterinary Services, a separate licensed veterinary practice, so your pet can pass peacefully at home in Eagle Rock. Afterward, Passing Paws can take your pet into our care directly from your home and carry out whichever aftercare choice you’ve made. Call us at (626) 340-0000 — we answer 8am to 8pm every day — and we’ll help you understand how the two pieces fit together.
